Luxury carriages are characterized by a high level of comfort. One car can accommodate from 4 to 6 double compartments. The main feature of the compartment in the "Lux" cars is that they consist of two rooms: a bedroom or a living room and a bathroom. Compared to conventional compartments, their area is 1.5-2 times larger.

Differences coupe "Lux"

If you purchase a ticket in the "Lux" compartment, you will be able to appreciate the high level of comfort. Each compartment has air conditioning, TV and DVD player. There are two shelves located one above the other. The width of the lower shelf in the unfolded position is 110 cm, so a person of any configuration can comfortably accommodate. The doors are equipped with magnetic locks, which are closed with card keys. AT individual wagons there are safes for storing valuables. You can call the conductor with one click on the button.

Each compartment has an individual bathroom. It has a dry closet, washbasin and shower. Passengers receive a free hygiene kit and bed linen. The compartments are also equipped with bathrobes and slippers.

Most trains also include hot meals in the ticket price. When issuing a ticket, the image of the corresponding icon helps to determine this.

What do you need to know when buying tickets?

Coupe "Lux" are sold only as a whole. You can travel in them alone or together. In any case, you can be sure that a stranger will not be placed with you. The advantage of these compartments is that children can travel with adults for free. Their number and age is determined depending on the route:

  2. There are two tariffs on trains departing from the capital to Nice, as well as from Moscow to Paris (via Berlin). According to the terms of the fare called “Adult “Family”, one child under 12 years old or two children under 4 years old can travel with two adults. The Adult Single fare allows one adult to bring two children under the age of 12 with them.
  3. When traveling to Finland, you can use the Single fare (1 adult and 1 child up to 6 years old) or the full fare (2 adults and 1 child up to 6 years old).

Additional free services at the station are provided for passengers of "Lux" carriages. In addition, they can expect the arrival of the train in the superior room.

At the end of the year, I will tell you about my travel experience in luxury wagons Russian railways.

So, this summer I had the need for an urgent trip with the whole family (me, husband and baby) from Sochi to central Russia. And due to the specifics of the direction, it was necessary to go either by rail or by car. After weighing all the pros and cons, we came to the conclusion that we have only one option left - the train.

There was about a week left before the start of the trip. And it was necessary to decide how to organize the trip in the most optimal (comfortable and inexpensive) way? Agree, not every sane parent agrees to play roulette and go in a compartment familiar to everyone with all its risks, and even more so in a reserved seat. In the summer, trains to the Sochi direction are always crowded, and therefore the chances of grabbing something from the set of "snoring-socks-fumes-doshirak-nonsense-egg-etc." very large.

That is why I began to look for the solution to my equation on the Russian Railways website, and after 5 minutes, clapping my hands for joy, I convinced my husband of the need to turn a blind eye to the price for the sake of the comfort offered. And I found "Luxury Car": http://pass.rzd.ru/static/public/ru?STRUCTURE_ID=5217

Here you have no neighbors, and a large bed (so comfortable for sleeping with a baby), and your own toilet with a shower, and climate control, and much, much more. So many that I wanted to close my eyes to the cost of a ticket - 13,600 rubles per person one way! It's good that they took one way ...

Some doubt was pecking inside that in the abbreviation RZD R - these are Russian, which means that everything cannot be so sweet. Okay, let's see...

But in the car, the first thing that caught my eye was that it was quite ordinary, and instead of the maximum 5 promised compartments per car, they were inside like in an ordinary compartment. I immediately thought - where did they hide the toilets then? Having entered my compartment, and putting things down, I realized that no one was hiding anything here - we were in a USUAL compartment car, perhaps without upper shelves. But there was even a ladder to the top shelf! Where to climb it?!

Being in a slightly shocked state, I checked the ticket, and it says in black and white that our car is LUX. It remained to find out the truth from the dear guide. And then it turned out that it was with us ... SV! If anyone has traveled by SV wagons, he knows how it differs from a compartment - not only in the absence of an upper shelf. I opened the RZD website on my tablet to make sure I hadn't completely lost my mind. And then the conductor (apparently, this case is far from the first for him) says: “Well, look here at the bottom of the page it is indicated that the luxury class compartments are designated (attention !!!) by the letter M - soft. And this is your Lux - then there is an ordinary SV. To my shocked “But this car is not a SV, but an ordinary compartment without upper shelves,” the conductor only skillfully spread his hands and said: “Well, what is it.” At that moment, all the anger that existed in me wanted to splash out on this dear person. But he has nothing to do with it. You should look for traces in the management of this red-and-white crooked monopolist. Thanks to the conductor and for the story about how and where to book the SOFT car correctly!

As a result of this trip, we had to seal the air conditioner with a garbage bag several times so that the child would not freeze (in the miracle car, the air conditioner does not decrease and does not turn off when the outside temperature is above 25), stay up all night and monitor the baby’s sleep (fit with him on a narrow the bunk is impossible, and left unattended too - there are no handrails). The chef finished us off with his delicacies of student cuisine for a couple of thousand for two.

The result of the trip is a destroyed nervous system and a crazy night for (only) almost a thousand US dollars!

Thoughts about the way back for 2 whole weeks did not let me sleep peacefully - it would be almost impossible even for seasoned parents to experience such stress again.
Therefore, using the advice of the conductor, we found another train with soft seats. The cost there was already entirely for the entire compartment - a little less than 26.000. And until the very trip, it was embarrassing that it was lower than the first tickets to the miracle-SV.

But, having entered the car, we were able to calmly exhale - it was the very LUX! With a large bed (in fact, the second one turned out to be almost the same) with excellent mattresses and linen, an armchair, a toilet with a shower, with climate control and heating (it got very cold in those days). And even though the carriage still resembled a mix of two such Soft compartments and the rest of the "type" SV, we drove calmly and with pleasure.

We were amused by 2 points: the first is the words of the head of this railway that we are now in a mobile 5-star hotel (either he has never been to such, or he mixed up with cognac); and the second is that at the end of the journey along the chain, the air conditioner did not work, then the boiler or the drain in the toilet bowls (as soon as one thing was repaired, the second was immediately cut down - and so on in a circle).

So my advice, friends - when traveling by rail, be on the lookout and do not fall for the blunt bait of these scam monopolists. And have a nice trip to all!

- this is a luxury car, which is usually rented by artists, politicians, officials and VIPs.

Drivers are specially trained, receiving the title of "Class I conductor" to work with VIP passengers.

It differs from the rest in a smaller number of windows and their large size. Outsiders are not allowed to enter.

The ticket is bought in one name, thus excluding strangers in the same compartment.

Depending on the modification, there may be 6, 5 or 4 compartments. In the latter case, passengers are provided with a bar. The compartment is designed for 2 places: a wide sofa bed with a width of 120 cm and a hanging shelf of 90 cm.

The environment can be compared to a hotel room of a three-star hotel
. There is a comfortable corner chair and a folding table. Passengers are offered an audio and video system, radio, Internet access (Wi-Fi), LCD TV.

Provided a separate climate control system for each box.

There is hot and cold water supply, which made it possible to make bathrooms and a shower room in each compartment. The bathrooms are equipped with underfloor heating, a vacuum toilet, and a washbasin.

The interior looks very presentable. The decoration used precious woods and artificial stone.

IMPORTANT: When buying a ticket, it is important to know that the CB also belongs to the category of increased comfort. It is easy for an inexperienced passenger to make a mistake. The ticket to will be distinguished by the letter "M" (soft). Without it, the coupe will be equivalent to the SV.

Photos can be viewed here.

Differences from SV

Main differences:

  1. Shower room, not just a bathroom.
  2. Individual air conditioning.
  3. The number of passenger boxes - 4-6, SV - 8-10.
  4. Outsiders are prohibited from entering.
  5. Differences in the interior.
