Story
The word "dombai" (Karach-Balk. dommai) means in Karachai "bison", once whole herds of mighty giants roamed in the forests of Dombai. The emergence of the settlement is associated with the development of tourism in the region, the beginning of which dates back to the 1920s. In 1921, the first organized tourist base appeared here. Massive Construction sports complex on Dombay glade began after the issuance of the Decree of the Council of Ministers of the USSR No. 10001 dated 02.01.1960 “On the development of a recreation center, tourism, skiing in the high-mountainous regions of the KChAO”; hotels, cable cars, etc. were built (and continue to be built).

- By plane. The nearest major airport is (230 km from Dombay). Flight time from Moscow is 2 hours.

Dombai is located in the Karachay-Cherkess Republic, which is located in the northwestern part of the ridge.
