The largest ship in the world parameters. The largest ships and planes (28 photos)

When it comes to large ships, the Titanic comes to mind first. It, of course, can be categorized as the most famous ships that crashed on the very first flight. But there are other huge ships that most people have not even heard of. We offer you to get acquainted with the largest ships in the history of shipbuilding, some of them still plow the oceans, and some have long been scrapped. The list is based on the length of the vessel, its gross tonnage and gross tonnage.

The Oceania TI class supertanker is one of the most beautiful vessels designed to transport oil. There are four such supertankers in the world. The gross carrying capacity of Oceania is 440 thousand tons, with the ability to reach speeds of up to 16-18 knots. The length of the vessel is 380 meters.

Berge Emperor was the largest oil tanker built by Mitsui in 1975 and one of the largest tankers in the world. Vessel weight 211360 tons. The first owner was Bergesen d.y. & Co, but then in 1985 the tanker was sold to Maastow BV, where it received a new name. He served there for only a year, and then he was sent for scrap.

Named after Alexander von Humboldt, the CMA CGM is an Explorer-class container ship. It was the largest container ship in the world until the E class Maersk Triple appeared. Its length is 396 meters. The gross carrying capacity is 187624 tons.

In the list of the largest ships, Emma Maersk ranks second among the ships that are still in service. This is the first of eight E-class container ships owned by the A.P. Moller-Maersk Group. It was launched into the water in 2006. The vessel is capable of approximately 11,000 TEUs. Its length is 397.71 meters.

Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller is the leading E-class container ship. It has the largest cargo capacity in the world, and is also the longest ship in 2013. Its length is 399 meters. Maximum speed - 23 knots with a carrying capacity of 18270 TEU. It was built for Maersk at the South Korean plant Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering.

Esso Atlantic is one of the most popular names in the history of large ships. The huge vessel with a length of 406.57 meters has an incredible gross carrying capacity of 516,891 tons. She served 35 years primarily as an oil tanker and was scrapped in Pakistan in 2002.

The Batillus is a supertanker built by Chantiers de l'Atlantique for the French branch of Shell Oil. Its gross carrying capacity is 554 thousand tons, speed is 16-17 knots, length is 414.22 meters. This is the fourth largest ship in the world. It made its last flight in December 1985.

The world's third largest ship is named after the French politician, founder of the oil company Elf Aquitaine Pierre Guillaume. It was built in 1977 by the Chantiers de l'Atlantique for the Nationale de Navigation. The ship served for six years, and then it was sent for scrap because of the incredible unprofitability. Due to its huge size, its use was severely limited. It could not pass through either the Panama or Suez canals. And not all ports could enter the ship. The gross carrying capacity was almost 555 thousand tons, the speed was 16 knots, the length was 414.22 meters.

The supertanker Mont was known by various names, it was called the queen of the oceans and rivers. The ship was built in 1979 at the Japanese shipyards Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd. During the Iran-Iraq war, it was badly damaged, and it was flooded because it was considered beyond repair. But later it was raised and repaired, calling Happy Giant. In December 2009, it made its last flight. At that time it was the largest ship in the world, but it has retained the title of the largest tanker to this day.

Prelude is the largest used vessel in the world, built in 2013 in South Korea. Its length is 488 meters, width is 78 meters. It is intended for transportation of liquefied natural gas. It took 260,000 tons of steel to build it, and when fully loaded, the weight exceeds 600,000 tons.

Since ancient times, people have traveled the seas, gradually improving their ships. Modern shipbuilding is very developed, and the range of ships has become extremely diverse. But the TOP of the largest ships in the world always attracts special attention, which will be discussed below.

1. Seawise Giant (Knock Nevis)

Deadweight - 564 700 tons.
. Length - 458.5 m.
. Year of construction - 1979.
. Last country of registration: Sierra Leone. Dismantled for scrap.

Until 2010, the largest ship in the world was the Knock Nevis supertanker, built in 1975 in the Japanese city of Yokosuka. Before changing several names, he had a simple number 1016. But the cyclopean dimensions actually ruined him - the tanker could not pass through either the Panama or the Suez Canal, even in the English Channel it would run aground, so move from ocean to ocean could only take a roundabout way.
During the Iran-Iraq war in 1988, an Iraqi missile hit him and seriously damaged him. As a result, the supertanker sank in the Persian Gulf near the shore. After the end of the conflict, he was raised from the bottom and towed to Singapore, where they were able to restore in 1991, giving him a new "optimistic" name "Happy Giant". But as a tanker, no one needed it, so it began to serve as a floating oil storage. Finally, in 2009, the "lucky" was sent on his last journey to the Indian shores, where the next year he was cut into scrap metal.

2. Pierre Guillaumat

Deadweight - 555,000 tons.
. Length - 414.2 m.
. Year of construction - 1977.
. Last country of registration: France. Cut up for scrap.

In the family of twin ships of the Batillus series, this supertanker is the largest in terms of deadweight. It was built at French shipyards, worked for nothing at all - 5 years, after which it was mercilessly sent in 1983 to South Korea, where it turned into scrap metal. The rest of his brothers from the same series shared his fate. The reasons for such an inglorious death in all cases were the same problems with the impossibility of passing through the Suez and Panama canals.

3 Esso Atlantic

Deadweight - 516 900 tons.
. Length - 406.5 m.
. Year of construction - 1977.
. Last country of registration: Liberia. Cut up for scrap.

At one time, this oil supertanker was also a deadweight champion. It was built in Japan, and made its first commercial route from African Liberia, where the company owner Esso Tankers registered it under the Liberian flag. Most often, the tanker transported oil from the Middle East to Europe. But in 2002, the end came to him - in Pakistan, he was cut into scrap metal. He was practically a twin ship "Esso Pacific", but despite the "Pacific" name, he was smaller than the "Atlantic brother".

4. Emma Maersk

Deadweight - 156 900 tons.
. Length - 397 m.
. Year of construction - 2006.
. Last country of registration: Denmark. It is still in operation.

This is the first ship of eight identical container ships of the E-class series, built by the Danish holding Moller-Maersk Group. At the time of her first voyage in 2006, she was the world's largest floating ship. "Emma Maersk" carries a variety of cargo between Asia and America, following through the Suez Canal and the Strait of Gibraltar.
This ship has a not very successful history - when its construction was already being completed, a fire broke out on the upper deck, which seriously damaged the brand new ship. Needed some repairs which were done quickly. In 2013, a new misfortune happened - right in the middle of the Suez Canal, one of the dry cargo ship's power plants broke down, as a result of which it lost control. Fortunately, both the ship and the canal remained intact.
Europeans do not favor the giant for its use of sulfur-rich fuel. Like many giant ships, Emma does not fit into the Panama Canal, therefore Pacific Ocean it is closed for her (not around Cape Horn to sail there!).

5.TI Class

Deadweight - 441 600 tons.
. Length - 380 m.
. Year of construction - 2003.
. Last country of registration: Belgium. It is still in operation.

This double-hulled ship had the largest deadweight and gross tonnage of its time. In total, four completely identical ships were built: two "TI Africa" and "TI Oceania" under the flag of the Marshall Islands, "TI Europe" under the Belgian flag and "TI Asia". But in 2010, floating platform-terminals for storage and shipment of oil products were made from "Asia" and "Afrika", since then they have been working on a layup near one of the Qatari offshore oil fields.

6 Vale Sohar

Deadweight - 400 300 t.
. Length - 362 m.
. Year of construction - 2012.
. Last country of registration: Marshall Islands. It is still in operation.

This vessel belongs to the family of the largest bulk carriers and is owned by the mining company Vale from Brazil. It transports ore mined in Brazil to the United States. In total, 40 huge dry cargo ships ply along this route, the deadweight of which is in the range of 380-400 thousand tons. Sohar is the largest ship among them.

7. Allure of the Seas

Deadweight - 19 750 tons.
. Length - 362 m.
. Year of construction - 2008.
. Last country of registration: Bahamas. It is still in operation.

This vessel belongs to the class of cruise ships "Oasis", consisting of two twins (the second "Oasis in the Seas"), occupying a leading place for its type of ships in the world. They say that Allure is still 5 cm longer than Oasis, which is why it is presented here. This giant is able to take on board 6296 passengers and 2384 crew members. The types of entertainment offered on board are innumerable, this floating city has a golf course and an ice rink, a lot of bars and shops, there is even a park with exotic plants.

8. Queen Mary II

Deadweight - 19 200 t.
. Length - 345 m.
. Year of construction - 2002.
. Last country of registration: Bermuda. It is still in operation.

This beautiful transatlantic cruise ship is one of the largest in the world. passenger liners. It is able to transport with maximum comfort from the Old to New World or back 2620 passengers. It was designed and built by the French company "Chantiers del" Atlantique ". On board there is a theater, a casino, 15 restaurants and the only planetarium on ships.

9. Mozah

Deadweight - 128 900 tons.
. Length - 345 m.
. Year of construction - 2007.
. Last country of registration: Qatar. It is still in operation.

This vessel opens a new family of tankers of the Q-Max series, which specialize in the transportation of liquefied natural gas produced in fields off the coast of Qatar. It was designed and built in South Korea. In total, 14 tankers from this series are currently in operation.

10. USS Enterprise (CVN-65)

Length - 342 m.
. Year of construction - 1960.
. Last country of registration: USA. The aircraft carrier has been decommissioned.

This is the largest American nuclear strike aircraft carrier, the first to operate a nuclear power plant. He began acting in 1961. A series of six similar hulks was planned, but only the Enterprise was built. Its cost resulted in an incredible 451 million of those more dollars, so even the bottomless US budget could not afford such expenses. In length, it is the largest warship in the world. Having refueled once with nuclear fuel, the aircraft carrier acquired autonomy for 13 years of active service and could cover a million nautical miles during this time. In February 2017, the Enterprise was sent to an honorary retirement - for the US Navy, this was the first farewell to a nuclear aircraft carrier.

Until today, I considered the largest ship or for example

As time goes by, technologies evolve. It so happened that the glory of the largest ships was fixed behind container ships and supertankers. But much less visible ships, designed to perform technical and production work, have long surpassed them in these parameters. And depending on the set goals, they become more and more.

Launched a new record holder vessel "Pioneer" (Pioneering Spirit), owned by a Swiss company - a giant construction catamaran, which has no analogues in modern shipbuilding.

Let's take a closer look at how and why this wave lord was built, the width of which exceeds the length of a football field.

The pioneer is a ship of gigantic proportions. Reaching 124 meters in width and 382 in length, it is equal in its parameters to the famous Empire State Building, and its width exceeds the length of a football field. Carrying capacity is great even for ships of the same type - 48 thousand tons. The cost of the project is also on a record and is almost 3 billion dollars.

Unlike oil tankers or container ships, crane ships specialize in the transport of multi-ton cargo and take part in offshore construction. This vessel will be used to install oil and gas platforms.

Photo 4.

The customer of the world's largest crane ship is Allseas, which is not going to stop there: the next ship built by them will be 160 meters wide and 400 meters long. The new vessel will be commissioned no later than 2020. The giants are being built at shipyards in South Korea.

Photo 5.

Built in the docks of South Korea, the Pioneer was sent to Rotterdam for final fine-tuning and launching. From the Maasflakte-2 zone, where a special dry dock was built for the new ship, the giant marine crane will go to Cape Town, and then on its first mission.

The catamaran is operated by a team of 571 people, including sailors, engineers, specialists in lifting and installing offshore drilling platforms and support staff.

Photo 6.

The world's largest ship cost its owners Allseas Corporation $1.7 billion, and the project was designed by Finnish shipbuilders Deltamarin. The contract for the creation of a giant ship by Allseas Corporation was signed in June 2010, after which the development of design documentation and the laying of a huge ship in South Korea at the Daewoo Shipbuilding Marine Engineering shipyard began. In 2013, the world's largest ship Pieter Schelte was launched.

Photo 7.

Thanks to the use of a catamaran-type hull, the dimensions of the newest ship turned out to be impressive: the maximum length is 382 m, the width is 117 m. This design made it possible to place its own infrastructure on the deck of the floating city, as well as the ability to transport a small oil platform.

The power plant of the vessel includes eight diesel engines with a capacity of 15640 hp. and thirteen Rolls-Royse diesel generators with a total capacity of 97,000 hp.

It is noteworthy that the ship was originally named after Peter Schelte Heerem, a marine engineer, father of the founder of Allseas, and, concurrently, a Nazi criminal. During World War II, Peter Schelte served in the Waffen-SS, and after the end of the war, a Dutch court sentenced Heerem to three years in prison for war crimes. At the end of last year, the provocative name was changed, and the ship became the "Pioneer".

Photo 8.

The largest ship in the world is equipped with three deck cranes with a lifting capacity of 50 tons and one with a lifting capacity of 600 tons. The diameter of the laid pipes ranges from 2 to 68 inches, and pipes with a total weight of 27,000 tons can be placed in a special cargo compartment.

The world's largest vessel is equipped with a modern dynamic positioning system and is designed to transport, install and commission drilling platforms. The maximum carrying capacity of the world's widest vessel is 48,000 tons. To do this, he was equipped with a unique 65-meter-high killer system, made by special order in Italy.

Photo 9.

The owners have high hopes for the newest vessel, and they are confident that it will break all records for the depth and speed of laying pipes, for which it has all the necessary equipment. In particular, seven automatic welding stations and six stations for applying a protective layer on pipes will be installed along the entire length of the world's largest ship. It is also already known that Allseas intends to order a second multifunctional vessel, which will be larger than its predecessor. The commissioning of the world's largest ship is planned for 2020, and its main purpose will be the installation and dismantling of the largest oil and gas platforms.

1. Tanker Knock Nevis (458 m.)

Knock Nevis is a Norwegian-flagged supertanker. During its existence, this supergiant has changed several names: Seawise Giant, Happy Giant, Jahre Viking, Knock Nevis, Mont. Moreover, he managed to change not only the name, but also the dimensions, as well as the scope of its application.
In 1974, Japanese shipyards received an order to build the largest tanker in the world. And five years later, in 1979, a giant ship was launched into the water, striking in its size. But the Greek shipowner, apparently, thought this was not enough. And he ordered an increase in the size of the tanker. After that, Seawise Giant (as it was then called) was cut in half, and additional sections were added to the middle. As a result, the dimensions of the largest ship in the world took the following values: length - 458.45 meters, width - 68.86 meters, weight of the transported cargo - 564763 tons, weight of the ship itself - 81879 tons, rudder weight - 230 tons, propeller weight - 50 tons. Welded additional sections of the hull increased its deadweight (capacity) to 564 thousand 763 tons of oil, otherwise - up to 658 thousand 362 cubic meters. Theoretically, 5.5 football fields could be placed on the upper deck of Knock Nevis.

One of the main shortcomings of the supertanker, which predetermined its short operation, was the draft at full load - 24.61 m (more than a 7-storey building). Due to its huge size, and also because of the risk of running aground, the ship could not pass through the Suez and Panama Canals, as well as through the English Channel.
In 1986, during the Iran-Iraq war, in the Strait of Hormuz, a tanker with Exocet missiles attacked and sank Iraqi Air Force planes. An Iraqi fighter fired an Exocet anti-ship missile at a unique tanker, which was then located almost in the Persian Gulf. It sank in shallow water near Kharg Island, due to which in August 1988 it was raised and taken for repairs at the Keppel Shipyard in Singapore by its new owner, Norman International. Ship repairers replaced 3.7 thousand tons of crumpled steel.
Anders Jahre bought the salvaged tanker and towed it to Singapore for repairs. In 1989, after repairs, the tanker was renamed Happy Giant. In 1991, after another overhaul, the tanker was renamed Jahre Viking. In 2004, the tanker was bought by a Singapore company and was later used as a floating oil storage facility in the waters of Qatar, at the same time the ship was named Knock Nevis. In 2009, the ship was transported to India to Alang, where it was forcibly stranded for disposal. In 2010, the ship was scrapped.

2. Container ship Maersk Mc-Kinney Møller (400 m)

The Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller is the first in a series of 20 Triple-E cargo ships ordered by Maersk Line. The giant is named after the son of the founder of the company that owns the container ship. Arnold Meersk McKinney Möller himself directed family company from 1965 to 2003, was the richest Dane and lived to be 98 years old. But the vessel is designed for a service life of not more than 50 years.
The Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller container ship is 399 meters long, 59 meters wide and 73 meters high. Its draft reaches 15.5 m. Two engines with a capacity of 43 thousand hp are mounted on the ship. everyone. The vessel can reach speeds up to 23 knots. If we put all the containers in a line, we get a wall of 111 km.

The vessel was built at the shipyards of the South Korean company Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering in the city of Geoje (Gyeongsangnam-do province). The company is the second largest shipbuilding company in the world. The huge container ship was laid down on November 27, 2012, and has been in operation since July 2013. The cost of the vessel is 190 million dollars.
Compared to previous similar vessels, the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller has a 20% reduction in fuel consumption and a 50% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions. This makes it the most efficient vessel of its class. Maximum speed - 23 knots.

3. Container ship CMA CGM Jules Verne (396 m)

Container ship "CMA CGM Jules Verne" IMO: 9454450, flag France, port of registry Marseille. Shipbuilder: Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, Goeje, South Korea. Owner and operator: CMA CGM, Marseille, France.
The ship was named after science fiction writer Jules Verne (CMA CGM Jules Verne). Main characteristics: Displacement 160,000 tons, deadweight 186,470 tons. Length 396 meters, width 54 meters, draft 16 meters. The maximum speed is 22.5 knots. Maximum capacity 16020 TEU. Crew: 26, mostly Croats and Filipinos. The vessel meets the most stringent international environmental standards.

Few comparisons:
- the length is more than 4 football fields, or the Eiffel Tower;
- the engine produces energy sufficient for a city with a population of 16 thousand people;
- if 16,000 TEU are put in line, its length will be 97 kilometers.
On May 3, 2013, the container ship "CMA CGM Jules Verne" left the port of Busan, South Korea, with the rotation: Busan, Qingdao, Ningbo, Shanghai, Xiamen, Chiwan, Yantian, Port Kelang, Suez, Malta, Marseille, Tangier , Southampton, Hamburg, Bremerhaven, Rotterdam, Zeebrugge, Le Havre, Malta, Suez, Khor Al Fakkān, Jebel Ali, Port Kelang and Ningbo.

4. Container ship Emma Marsk (396 m)

Emma Mærsk ("Emma Mersk") is a container ship owned by the Danish company A.P. Moller-Maersk Group and built at the Lindoe shipyard in Denmark, which is part of Odense Steel Shipyard Ltd in 2006 (7 more ships of the same type were later built). At the time of construction, Emma Mærsk was the world's largest container ship. The vessel is 396.84 meters long, 63.1 meters wide and 30 meters high from keel to deck. Displacement 156,907 metric tons. Emma Mærsk can carry up to 11,000 standard 20-foot containers (more than 14 thousand according to other calculation methods). Loading container ship "Emma Maersk" is possible with twenty giant cranes at the same time. By the way, despite its gigantic size, the crew of the vessel is only 13 people.

The vessel is powered by a Wärtsilä-Sulzer 14RTFLEX96-C engine, currently the world's largest single diesel engine, weighing 2,300 tons, producing 109,000 horsepower (82 MW), consuming 6,291 liters of fuel per day. The vessel is equipped with several environmental mitigation features, including a heat recovery system and combined heat and power generation. The maximum speed of Emma Mærsk for a container ship is quite solid - 25.5 knots (more than 47 kilometers per hour).
8,000 sensors are installed in the MO and holds, the information from which is sent to the computer center located in the engine room CPU. The center fully controls the state of the vessel. The center's remote monitors are located on the bridge and in the cargo operations center. Emma Maersk carries up to 1,000 40ft refs. For fastening containers, special fasteners have been developed that ensure the speed of operation.
Environmental safety is achieved on board thanks to the heat recovery system, which helps to save up to 10% of energy. But more importantly, because the ship is three times the size of any container ship that has sailed through the Panama Canal, the number of small ships it can displace would emit far more emissions into the atmosphere than a single large ship.

5. Container ship MSC Daniela (366 m)

In mid-December 2008, the construction of a container ship, the MSC Daniela, was completed at the Samsung Heavy Industry Shipyard in Geoje. It was built by Swiss-Italian shipowner Mediterranean Shipping Company (Mediterranean Shipping Company, MSC). Its container capacity is approximately 14,000 TEU. The ship is 366 m long and 51 m wide; the draft is 15 m, and the height of the vessel above the waterline is about 53 m.

This container ship differs not only in size, but also in design. To provide better view from the navigation bridge, the superstructure on it is located in the forward part of the vessel, which also makes it possible to increase the container capacity and reduce the amount of ballast received. During the construction of the vessel, international rules for the protection of fuel tanks were observed: they are located in a protected area below the superstructure.
During the construction of the mega-container ship, extra-strong steel was used, which made it possible to reduce the thickness of the skin, thus creating a lightweight and durable vessel structure and maintaining the rigidity of the hull at an acceptable level.

6. Container ship CMA CGM Christophe Colomb (365 m)

On November 10, 2009, the latest container ship for the French shipping company CMA CGM Group was delivered from the South Korean port of the Hyundai Heavy Industries shipyard. The Boardwalk area contains a carousel, cafes, shops, clubs and an amphitheater. Another highlight of the ship is the Rising Tide bar in the Royal Promenade, the first mobile bar on a cruise ship.
The vessel is equipped with 6 Wärtsilä engines - three 12-cylinder and three 16-cylinder. Together, its power plants generate 96 MW of power, which allows the ship to reach speeds of up to 22.6 knots.

8. A cruise ship Queen Mary 2 (345 m.)

RMS Queen Mary 2 is an ocean liner, the flagship of the British shipping company Cunard Line, owned by Carnival Corporation & plc. Built and put into operation on January 12, 2004 at the shipyards of Chantiers de l'Atlantique in Saint-Nazaire in France and at the time of launching was the largest passenger ship in the world.
"Queen Mary 2" inherited the name of the ocean liner "Queen Mary", launched in 1934. That, in turn, was named after the English Queen Mary of Teck, wife of George V. On the way from Southampton to New York in August 1936, the first Mary set a speed record, breaking the Atlantic Ocean in 3 days, 20 hours 42 minutes , and took away the Blue Ribbon of the Atlantic from the French Normandy. The Queen Mary record was broken only in 1952.

9. Aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CVN-65) (342.3 m)

USS Enterprise (CVN-65) is a US aircraft carrier. The first aircraft carrier with a nuclear power plant. Commissioned in 1961. The first and only ship of its project, despite five more ships of the series planned for construction. The total cost of the Enterprise reached $451 million, which was one of the reasons why the construction of a series of ships was abandoned.

It has the largest (342.3 meters) length among warships in the world. One load of nuclear fuel is enough for 13 years of service, during which time the ship can travel up to 1 million miles. The total ammunition of weapons is 2520 tons.
The aircraft carrier has become a symbol of US naval power and has taken part in almost all wars and conflicts that the United States has been involved in. In 1962, during the Caribbean crisis, he participated in the naval blockade of Cuba. From the end of 1965 to the beginning of 1973 operated six times off the coast of North Vietnam, taking an active part in the hostilities. - the first nuclear aircraft carrier in the 60s held the title of the largest ship (total weight and capacity of the Enterprise is 93 thousand tons),
- the first phased array radar (SCANFAR) appeared on the Enterprise,
- the first ship with purely aviation weapons (cost overruns forced the designers to abandon any self-defense systems, only in 1967 the first Sea Sparrow air defense systems were installed on the ship)
- on board the Enterprise, the most a large number of nuclear reactors
- as many as 8 pieces (a dubious achievement, speaking only about the imperfection of nuclear technology in the 50s),
- the first ship with a nuclear power plant to take part in hostilities,
- in December 1969, during the Vietnam War, aircraft from the aircraft carrier Enterprise set a hitherto unbroken record by completing 178 sorties in a day,
- the longest service in the current fleet (51 years),
- Finally, the Enterprise is the first of the giant nuclear aircraft carriers to go through the recycling process.
On November 4, 2012, the aircraft carrier completed its last 8-month voyage. In total, the aircraft carrier went to sea 25 times. Decommissioned 1 December 2012.
